DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Coordinator, Student
and Community Engagement
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Coordinate
The Delta Center for Culture and Learning’s community engagement and
service-learning initiatives, including the Lighthouse Partnership
- Assist
other Center employees with daily management of the
Delta
Center, and attend/report to
monthly Center faculty meetings
- Provide
for recruitment, placement, and support of student service-learners and
volunteers
- Maintain
records, reports, and documentation of services and constituent impacts
- Assist
faculty with utilization of the service-learning pedagogy, placement and
support of service-learners
- Act
as a clearinghouse for information on campus concerning community and public
service opportunities
- Coordinate
and report clearinghouse efforts within the guidelines of the ongoing Delta
Volunteers United Way grant
- Coordinate
Delta Volunteers Advisory Board meetings
- Write
at least 2 grants within the program year
- Maintain
Delta Volunteers records and reporting functions
- Participate
in the Faculty Committee on
Service-Learning
- Supervise
the Campus Link AmeriCorps team
- Maintain
Campus Link AmeriCorps reporting functions in conjunction with Campus Link
AmeriCorps members
- Maintain
and publicize the Community Engagement and
Service-Learning Faculty Resource Library on
campus
- Explore
methods to increase quality of reflection activities for
service-learners
- Explore
Alternative Break opportunities for
Delta
State
University faculty and
students
- Explore,
promote, and coordinate Alternative Break and service opportunities for
external groups
- Provide
oversight to all service pay programs (20 FWS study-serve corps), mentoring,
special projects, and student training
- Provide
reports on service pay programs to various constituencies including Delta
State University Financial Aid and Delta State University Career Services
- Respond
to initiatives from the President, Provost, and Delta Center Director (direct
supervisor)
Education, Skills and
Experience:
Minimum
requirements
- B.A.
or B.S. in appropriate field
- Prefer
a minimum of 2 years experience in public/community service-learning
programming or education
- Ability
to relate to diverse constituents
- Competency
in standard computer applications
- Working
knowledge of service-learning and other community/civic engagement
initiatives
- Interest
in positively impacting community issues
- A
vision for social change on a local level
- Experience
in building partnerships and collaborating with the community
- Willingness
to learn and adapt
- Ability
to submit effective grant proposals
- Superb
communication skills including speaking, writing, and
listening
- Ability
to analyze, problem solve, and be flexible in service delivery
- Enthusiasm
for working as a team member and building collaborative relationships, while
playing a leadership role
